I should say, there’s a difference between corsairs and pirates. Corsairs are government-sanctioned, licensed pirates. They have a boss, they work for the feds, they have a 401k. Pirates do still exist in the Binturong universe. And they are not to be trifled with.
But you’ll find that out soon enough…
Another name for this sort of thing is possessing a letter of Marque and operating as a privateer. Usually it comes with a few specifications, basically, raid enemy ships, don’t raid those of the government sponsor, bring any hulls captured back for sale and in exchange you can dock at your governments facilities and possibly even access to their stores and what effectively was a bounty…
… or that’s how it went for Sailing Ships.
I’m really enjoying this comic… so wish their was more than one page a week though!
